EVENT: Film Screening on History of Darby Township

Have family roots in Darby Township? Interested in the histories of Philadelphia and its surrounding communities?

The following event may be of interest to you:Three-time Leeway Foundation Award winning writer/community arts educator Valerie Harris, will screen her film, “A Highway Runs Through It….A Community History of Darby Township” at Scribe Video Center, 4212 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, on Friday, April 8, at 7:00pm.  Three years in the making, “Highway…” evolved from memoir writing workshops Valerie conducted with seniors in Darby Township, Delaware County. The film utilizes vintage photos, archival footage, newspaper clippings, dramatic voice-overs and interviews with lifelong residents to tell the engaging life story, struggles and triumphs, of an historic black community that dates back to the 1700s.
